Charity Hockey Game Raises Over $74,000 for Mental Health & Addiction Services
Apr 26, 2024
CMHA Thames Valley Addiction and Mental Health Services is thrilled to share that our charity hockey game with the Toronto Maple Leafs Alumni vs the St. Thomas Police Service raised more than $74,000 for mental health and addiction supports.
The event, held at the Joe Thornton Community Centre on Saturday, April 20, was an incredible success! With over 1,800 guests in attendance – and one metric tonne of fries consumed! – we are exceptionally grateful for the enthusiastic support of this community. In addition to ticket sales, $1,715 was raised through the silent auction, which featured three autographed Leafs jerseys. We also want to thank everyone who purchased a hot dog combo and donated $2 to our organization, which raised $312.
The funds raised at this event will support our mental health and addiction services in St. Thomas and Elgin County. Each year, we support approximately 3,500 clients in this region through services like transitional case management, crisis supports, supportive housing, withdrawal management, and mental health counselling. Events like this are essential for raising awareness about mental health and addiction care available in the community. We look forward to sharing more details on how the funds raised will be utilized and thank everyone who was a part of this exceptional event.
Thank you to our generous sponsors; without their support, this event would not have been possible. Sponsors include: our presenting sponsor Stay True Tattoo; Wendy’s; Liftow; Elgin Bookkeeping; Entegrus; Doug Tarry Homes; MyFM; Campbell & Co Insurance; the St. Thomas Police Board; and the St. Thomas Police Association. Thank you to MyFM for being our media partner and thank you to M&T Printing for being our partner on signage and event programs.
We also thank Kathy’s Catering and Boston Pizza for their donations to our VIP reception.
Thank you Jessica Reeves, our volunteer photographer. Jessica captured hundreds of photos throughout the event, including the VIP meet-and-greet reception, the opening ceremonies, and action shots of the game. These photos can be found on her website.
Thank you to the amazing team at the Toronto Maple Leafs Alumni and MLSE, who worked seamlessly with our team to coordinate everything with the Leafs Alumni team and bring star power to this event.
And last but not least, we thank our volunteers and committee members. Our partners at the St. Thomas Police Service and the City of St. Thomas have worked tirelessly with us to bring this event to life and we are so grateful for everything we accomplished together. We extend our deepest thanks for their community connections, enthusiasm for this event, and commitment to making it a success. Our event volunteers were vital to the hockey game and VIP reception running smoothly, and we cannot thank this group enough for their dedication, high spirits, and generous donation of time and efforts.
