Supportive Housing at a Glance

Housing is an important part of any individual’s recovery journey. Having a safe, secure home allows someone who is living with mental health and/or addiction challenges to spend less time and energy on securing or maintaining basic needs and more time on their recovery. This is something that many might take for granted. But housing instability and homelessness is the reality for thousands of Londoners every day.

CMHA TVAMHS has a variety of supportive housing programs, supporting more than 1,500 clients each year. Our programs range from shared living environments with 24/7 staff to individual units where support is available on a daily or weekly basis or even as-needed.

For our clients, supportive housing is often more than just a place to live—it’s part of a broader rehabilitation process. Many programs integrate psychosocial rehabilitation and case management services, which help clients develop or improve daily living skills, foster independence, and enhance their community integration. Our wrap-around services aim to support not only the individual’s living arrangements but also their mental and emotional well-being.

Tailored Housing for Diverse Needs

Recognizing that different demographics have different needs, our variety of housing programs address a variety of situations. Long-term and transitional options serve individuals facing specific challenges, such as:

Each client has access to a tailored support plan that ensures they receive the services most beneficial to their unique circumstances.

A Path to Independence and Community Integration

Supportive housing goes beyond merely providing shelter—it offers a foundation for individuals to build healthier, more independent lives. With the right support, individuals will not only maintain stable housing but also develop the skills and confidence to participate more fully in their communities. The ultimate goal of supportive housing is to create a pathway to greater autonomy while ensuring that individuals have the necessary resources to lead fulfilling lives.

The Future of CMHA TVAMHS’ Supportive Housing Programs

One of our new Strategic Priorities focuses on supportive housing. We know that although all affordable housing does not have to be supportive, all supportive housing must be affordable. And we are excited to begin a new chapter of supportive, affordable housing in London.

Our new project, called the Hills, will be located in Soho and will provide a significant number of units with varying levels of mental health and addiction supports to Londoners in need. We are grateful for our generous donors, whose help allowed our organization to purchase a plot of land and will fund the development of this building. We will be sharing more on this project in the coming months.
