CMHA TVAMHS stands for 2SLGBTQIA+ Safety
Jun 15, 2023
Recently, there has been a strategic targeting of Pride Events in our region. As an agency, we can anticipate the negative impact this will have on the 2SLGBTQIA+ people who call Thames Valley home.
CMHA TVAMHS strives to create safe places for all vulnerable people in our communities – this includes 2SLGBTQIA+ people, who experience higher risks for some mental health concerns due to the impacts of discrimination. This discrimination can impact the ability to find secure housing, appropriate healthcare, personal safety or secure employment and this is particularly true for transgender individuals.
CMHA TVAMHS will continue to advance inclusion efforts and support of 2SLGBTQIA+ people by remaining committed to creating, maintaining, and supporting safe spaces within our sites, programs, and the community at large.
As an organization, we are concerned about recent events in our region. We will continue to be a safe place for 2SLGBTQIA+ people in Thames Valley. We speak out against hate motivated and aggressive behaviours and words, while holding the balance that we serve all people in need of addiction or mental health supports, without judgement, regardless of their opinions or behaviours. This is in keeping with our values of: Respect, Compassion, Inclusion, and Accountability.
If you need support, please reach out to us or attend any walk-in crisis services.
