CMHA TVAMHS Honours Remembrance Day
Nov 7, 2024
On November 11th, the CMHA Thames Valley Addiction and Mental Health Services (CMHA TVAMHS) joins the community in honouring military members who have served—and continue to serve—our country. This solemn day offers a moment for all Canadians to reflect on the sacrifices made for the freedoms we enjoy today.
Remembrance Day is a cornerstone of Canadian heritage, marking the armistice that ended World War I on November 11, 1918. It serves as a day to remember and honour those who have died in military service, as well as those who returned bearing the visible and invisible scars of conflict.
While we pay tribute to veteran’s service, we also acknowledge the mental and emotional battles many continue to face long after their service has ended. Conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, addiction, and anxiety are prevalent among veterans and can have profound impacts on their lives and the lives of their families.
At CMHA TVAMHS, we recognize the importance of supporting the mental well-being of our community – including veterans, military members, and their loved ones. Our services are dedicated to providing the care and resources needed to navigate these challenges.
There are many ways to honour Canadian veterans on Remembrance Day. You can attend local ceremonies, wear a poppy, or support veteran organizations. You can also raise awareness about the need for mental health and addiction supports for veterans by encouraging and supporting open dialogue.
