Friendly Callers – 2SLGBTQ+ Seniors Advisory Committee Expression of Interest
The Friendly Callers – 2SLGBTQ+ (Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, and other identities within the community) Older Adults and Seniors Advisory Committee consists of individuals ages 55+ who live within the Thames Valley Region. The purpose of the committee is to provide strategic planning, advice, and expertise in the implementation of a Supportive Friendly Callers program for 2SLGBTQ+ Older Adults and Seniors at the Canadian Mental Health Association Thames Valley in late February 2023.
The Friendly Callers 2SLGBTQ+ Older Adults and Senior’s program is a service that will provide confidential listening and support to individuals who are 55 years or older who are part of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and who reside within the Thames Valley region. The purpose of the program is to increase participants’ sense of belonging, connection, mentorship, and well-being. The program will be staffed by trained volunteers who are also part of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
Members of the committee are expected to provide support and input:
- To ensure that the voices and perspectives of 2SLGBTQ+ Older Adults and Seniors are reflected and integrated in the development of the program
- To bridge any knowledge gaps and support the development and implementation of training
- To engage in outreach to 2SLGBTQ+ communities to disseminate information and feedback
Individuals interested in participating in the advisory committee ideally possess:
- Living experience/a member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community who are 55 years or older
- A strong interest in equity, inclusion, diversity, and program development
- A strong understanding of intersectionality and the diverse range of needs and concerns facing 2SLGBTQ+ seniors within the Thames Valley region
- Availability to participate in meetings during and/or outside of business hours
